Texas State Hospital

On December 17, 2008, the D-Term Mental Health group visited the Texas State Hospital, which is a hospital that helps people with mental illnesses get back on their feet and be cured. At the Texas State Hospital, we spent our time volunteering at their annual Christmas party. We helped prepare the patients' food, and we helped to serve them, without us, the hospital staff would have taken much longer to finish serving the patients. Unlike the Arc, here we were allowed to talk and interact with the patients, and most of our group were able to get insight into how mentally ill people are affected in conversation. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures of the patients, according to State and Federal law. However, we do have some pictures of our work.
